PARTIES: Stella McCartney's New Tokyo Boutique

SOCIALIZING: Stella McCartney in Tokyo.
Stella Mccartney was in Tokyo to celebrate the opening of her new Aoyama boutique (to complement her recent Ginza stand-alone shop) last Monday, and topped it off with a bash at the infamous Trump Room with a select group of revelers. They waited patiently while sipping on champagne, and being treated to a pole dance performance (all the rage at parties in Tokyo nowadays) until the Queen of the night finally made her appearance. It was then that the crowd swarmed around Stella, phone cameras and official snaps flashing in unison.  read more »

Matohu Reinvents The Classic

Hiroyuki Horihata didn't quite reinvent the wheel, but he did tackle another classic: the traditional kimono. Horihata created a version of the traditional garment called nagagi—meaning "to wrap around"— for Matohu, the Tokyo label he designs with his wife Makiko Sekiguchi.

With the global economy's continuing decline, fast-fashion companies are rapidly ascending. Even Japan's label slaves have turned to more reasonably priced tags—as evidenced by H&M's much exulted opening in Tokyo this fall. Japanese consumers have fallen head over heels for cheap clothing and may never turn back.

Vivienne Tam recently launched the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam edition in Tokyo's Roppongi district. Joined by HP Senior Vice President Satvij S. Chahil, Tam beamed as Japanese celebrities made themselves cozy with fellow partygoers before catching a show of Tam's spring/summer '09 collection, which featured a silk scarf printed with the same Shakuhaku flower motif that adorns the honored HP "clutch notebook." The cute but powerful little machine won't be available on these shores until February 2009, but in the meanwhile, Tam briefly weighs in on the collaboration for us.  read more »
