The Stella Fashion Night in Zurich, Switzerland, saw the distribution of two huge fashion prizes. The prestigious Swiss Textiles Award went to the Mulleavy sisters of American label Rodarte, while Judith Klingenfeld won the Annabelle Award and will spend one year working with the Missoni team in North Italy.

Quantize subway runway
During this year's New York Fashion Week, the city subway mostly served to get event-goers from midtown to far-flung destinations. This tube-mentality meant many people missed one of the event's most interesting shows, as fledgling Japanese brand Quantize and their couture-ish creations took over Lower East Side subway cars. The move may have missed most radars during the week itself, but the ripple affect is already making waves throughout the industry.

A recent article in the Guardian argued that fashion designers don't just set clothing trends, they also use the catwalk to showcase new and exciting music. The British newspaper mentioned artists such as MIA, Dizzee Rascal and Santogold, who were all featured in fashion shows before even being signed to a record label. If this is the case, then New York's Violens are a band set for stardom.

Even before New York Fashion Week began, the industry was buzzing about how designers would respond to the gloomy economic climate. Many pundits predicted that the collections would follow a daring route, while others forecasted a very safe season. In the end, the week yielded a mixed bag of designs. Although the collective reception was lukewarm, designers explored a range of approaches that included new proportional horizons, gender games and sexual charm.
