Modelizing: The Art of Window Shopping

MODELIZING: The window at YSL

YSL, Celine, Hermès

I've decided that I hate this YSL shoe. I hate the shape of it, I hate the heel shape with that weird little bottom, I hate all the textures/colours it comes in. I hate seeing it every where, yet I keep taking photos of it. It's a hate photo, if such a thing exists.  read more »

India's Nouveau Riche

NEWS: India's Nouveau Riche
The rest of the world may be absorbed by a global financial crisis, but you wouldn't know it in New Delhi's Luxury Stores. Brands such as Hermès, Cartier, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace, have unloaded their merchandise there to chase India's growing class of super-rich. The number of Indians with more than $1 million in assets has grown since last year by 22%, to 167,000, more than any other country in Asia, according to the 2008 CapGemini Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific Wealth Report, Time Magazine reports.  read more »

Freya prays to luxury brands, Credit: Chelsea Bauch
Luxury brands are shaking in their stilettos at the moment—what with the Lehman Brothers breakdown in the States, a threat of recession in China and an overall shift in what people want to buy. Interview: Michael Tonello Brings Home The Birkin

Bringing Home the Birkin, by Michael Tonello

For many, the coveted Birkin bag is a symbol of wealth and iconic luxury, but for American author, Michael Tonello, the handbag was a way of life. After years of success as a stealth Birkin bag-buyer and eBay re-seller, Tonello decided to ditch the profession and put pen to paper in his first ever memoir, Bringing Home the Birkin: My Life In Hot Pursuit of the World's Most Coveted Handbag. Released last April, the book became an immediate must-read, and has been the choice beach entertainment for fashionistas from the Hamptons to Bali this summer. Coming off a whirlwind two-month book tour, this newly inked author took time out of his busy schedule to talk to us about getting his start in the business, how the tell-all has affected his life and the secret behind Hermès' inexhaustible appeal.

JC Report: First thing's first, do you personally own a coveted Birkin bag?

Michael Tonello: No, although I currently have one for my tour, which is borrowed from another online luxury reseller.  read more »

Looking So Neon

Neon
The brand Neon has become a way to distinguish the type of people who exude a cheerful '70s/'80s vibe—in other words, those who usually wear dramatic silk caftans or printed, high-waisted bottoms. Created in 2002 by stylist Dudu Bertholini and patternmaker Rita Comparato, Neon fulfills the desires of a market niche that includes clients such as Björk and Juliette Lewis.
