Statement Shoes

Prada
A woman's love affair with shoes has never exactly been a secret, but it's been officially thrust into the public eye over the past few seasons. From those cerulean Manolos that proved Carrie Bradshaw's only steadfast love in the Sex and the City film to Gwyneth Paltrow's tabloid-friendly outings with bondage inspired Givenchy booties, the world at large is on intimate terms with the couturiers of the footwear world—even those who aren't blessed with a couture budget.

More Is More In Russian Retail

Podium
In most parts of the world, "well-edited" is one of the highest compliments given to a boutique. But in Russian retail, as with many other things, the less-is-more ethos is a foreign concept. Rather than fill retail spaces with a succinct selection of painstakingly chosen items, Moscow's multi-brand boutiques contain an assortment of labels more extensive than any we've seen to date and that's even with an economic crisis looming.

We Are the Market

WE ARE THE MARKET: SIBLING London.

Joe Bates, Sid Bryan and Cozette McCreery, together, form Sibling, a new men's knitwear line that produces the unexpected. Launched in May 2008, they describe the Sibling male as possessing one independent characteristic: a sense of humor. With intricate designs and boundary-pushing sweaters, Sibling was born out of a desire to give men's knitwear a "kick up the arse".  read more »

The New Faces Of Knitwear

Pristine Smut

Modelizing: The Art Of Window Shopping

MODELIZING: The window at La Perla

Meatpacking: La Perla, Puma, Alexander McQueen, Moschino...

First of all a very happy birthday to my dear friend Jason and secondly...McQueen, please just give me all of your clothes. Honestly, you don't even have to give them to me forever, just lend them to me and allow me to wake up in their greatness every day.
P.S. don't forget today is the last day to vote for my entry in the YSL contest. So if you haven't voted, vote--if you have, vote again! thank you.  read more »

BESS
New York City's venerable punk-rock outlet BESS is hitting its stride. Modelizing: The Art of Window Shopping

Moschino store window

A few days ago the new store manager of La Perla left me a comment saying that she's going to try to make the windows better. Um--obsessed with this possibility. If I can be of any help [I do have ideas after all] we should discuss. La Perla Meatpacking windows are possibly what started off my obsession. I used to shoot them in black and white film my freshman year. Until that day, let's look at other peoples work because that's what you're here for.  read more »

Fashion Now Is Pretty Ugly

Balenciaga s/s '09, photo courtesy: Stylesight
Judging by the latest spring/summer collections, the fashion industry has taken a deliberately ugly turn. Dowdy or even monstrous silhouettes, discordant combinations of fabrics and colors along with unsightly hair and makeup ruled the runway, while show-goers frequently hid behind oversized glasses in a mock-display of concealment.
